This story is taken from Genesis 6:5-22
The Lord saw how great the sins of the people of the earth were. And the Lord saw that everything people thought or imagined was always the same, they had their mind fixed on nothing but evil all the time. So the Lord was sorry that He had ever made people. And the way people had become so evil broke the Lord's heart. So finally the Lord said, "I will completely wipe out the people that I have created, from the face of the earth. I will destroy all the animals and birds, too. I am sorry I ever made them. But Noah found favor with the Lord.
This story is about Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man. That means he worshipped and obeyed the Lord. And Noah was the only man that people wasn’t able to speak evil about, that was living on the earth at that time. And Noah walked in a close fellowship with God. Noah had three sons.
At the time of Noah, the earth had become very sinful in God's eyes, and it was filled with violence. God saw all the sin, the people in the world did. God also saw the violence that the people did and how evil the world had become. So, God told Noah, "I have decided to destroy all living things, for the earth is filled with violence because of what the people are doing. I will wipe them all off of the face of the earth."
So God told Noah to build and ark. Now an ark looks something like a boat. God told Noah to build the ark from gopher wood, and he was to build rooms inside the ark. Noah was to seal the ark with tar inside and outside. This was to keep the water out of the ark. There was to be a door in the side of the ark. The ark was very large. It was 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. There were to be three floors inside the ark. As you can see the ark was three stories tall. A window was 18 inches below the roof.
Then the Lord said, "I am about to cover the earth with a flood, that will destroy all air breathing living things that is under heaven and on earth. They will all die. But I will set up my covenant with you." God's covenant means His Promise. Then God told Noah, "you, your wife, your sons, and your sons wives, will all be safe inside the ark. You are to bring a pair, male and female, of every kind of the animals, there will be large and small animals. And bring a pair of every kind of bird into the ark with you to keep them alive during the flood. Also, God told Noah to be sure to take enough food for his family and for all the animals and birds.
It was by faith that Noah obeyed God and built the ark. But, Noah did everything exactly as God had told him to do.
