Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden

This lesson is taken from Genesis 3

One day evil entered the garden and on account of that Eve soon disobeyed God and she talked Adam into disobeying God as well. This was mankind first sin. Because disobeying God is a sin. Do you know what Eve did? Well, It all started with the serpent (snake). For the serpent was more cunning, than any of the wild animals that God had made. You see the snake was very good at making anything or anyone believe what was not true. One day in the Garden of Eden the snake said to Eve, "Did God tell you not to eat of any of the fruit in the garden?" Eve answered the snake, "Of course we may eat any of the fruit! It is only the fruit from the tree in the center of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. We must not even touch it, or we will die." Now, the snake told Eve a lie. For the snake said, "You will not die. God knows that when you eat it, you will become like God. You will know everything, and you will know good from evil.”

Eve listened to the snake and she believed him. The fruit was very tempting, and it looked so good to her. She thought the fruit would make her very wise. So, Eve pulled one of the fruit from the tree and she took a bite of the fruit. Eve also gave Adam some of the fruit to eat and he ate it. When they ate the fruit their eyes were opened. Adam and Eve suddenly felt ashamed, for the first time they saw that they were not wearing any clothes. They took some fig leaves and sewed them together for clothing.

When it was close to evening Adam and Eve heard God walking about in the garden. And Adam and Eve hid from God among the trees in the garden. God called out to Adam, "Where are you?" Adam answered, "I heard you coming, so we hid. I was afraid because we didn't have on any clothes." Then God asked Adam, "Who told you that you didn't have on any clothes? Have you eaten the fruit that I commanded you to leave alone?" "Yes!" Adam said. But Adam didn't want God to blame him, so Adam blamed Eve. Adam told God, ”it was the woman that you gave me, Eve gave me the fruit to eat. So God asked Eve, "How could you do such a thing?" But Eve didn't want God to blame her, so she blamed the snake. For Eve said, "It was the snake! He tricked me. That is why I ate it."
Then God said to the snake, "Because you have done this, you will be punished. You will now crawl on your belly, on the ground, for as long as you live. From now on you are the enemy of the woman and her children. She and her children will crush your head and you will bite their heels." And for Eve punishment God said to Eve, "You will have pain when you have children and your husband will rule over you." Next, God told Adam that since he had listened to his wife and ate the fruit that he had told him not to eat, that he would be punished. That for the rest of his life he would have to make a living from the ground. But, the ground would also grow thorns so he would have to fight the thorns, in other words Adam would have to get rid of the thorns in his field in order for his food to grow. He would have to do this until he died. Then he would return to the dust of the ground from which he was created.
God made clothes for Adam and Eve from the skins of animals. Then God got to thinking, since Adam had eaten of the fruit that he had told him not to eat, and now that Adam knew right from wrong, Adam might also decide to eat the fruit from the tree of life, and then he would live forever. So God decided to send Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. So God made Adam and Eve leave the Garden of Eden. At the east of the garden the Lord, God placed mighty angels and a flaming sword which turned in all directions, to guard the way to the tree of life. That way Adam and Eve would not be able to get back into the Garden of Eden, or be able to get to the tree of life.

Adam and Eve

This lesson is taken from Genesis 2:4-25

Review:
When God made the heavens and the earth, there were no plants or grain growing on the earth, for God hadn't sent any rain yet. And also there
wasn't anyone to do any planting for man wasn't made yet. God had water to come up out of the ground and that watered all the earth. On the
sixth day God made man's body from the dust
of the ground, and God breathed into man the breath of life. Then man became a living person.

Lesson:
After God made man, God planted a garden in Eden. There God put the man that He had created. God planted all kinds of trees in the garden. They were beautiful trees and they had delicious fruit on them. At the center of the garden God put the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

A river ran from the land of Eden, and this river watered the garden. Then the river divided into four other rivers.
  • One of these rivers is named Pishon, and it goes all around Havilah, where gold is found
  • The second river is named Gihon, and it goes all around Cush
  • The third river is named Tigris and it goes to the east of Asshur
  • The fourth river is named Euphrates

God put the man in the Garden of Eden to take care of the garden. But God gave the man this warning: “You may eat any of the fruit from the garden except the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. If you eat any of the fruit from that tree you will die.”

Then the Lord God said, “It isn't good for the man to be alone. I will make a companion who will help the man.” So God made from the dirt every kind of animal and bird. Then God brought them to the man, whose was named Adam, to see what Adam would call them. Adam gave a name to each animal and each bird. But still there was no companion that was right for Adam. So God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep. Then God took one of Adam's ribs, and then God closed up the place where He took the rib from. Next, God made a woman from Adam's rib and brought her to Adam.

Adam said, “At last! She is part of my own flesh and bone! She will be called woman, because she was made from man.” Now, Adam and his wife were both naked, but they didn't feel any shame.

The Fall of Jericho

This lesson is taken from Joshua 6:1-16 and 20

The gates of the city, Jericho, were tightly shut. Because the people of Jericho were afraid of God's people, the Israelite. Jericho king wouldn't let anyone go in or out of the city.
Now, God told Joshua, the leader of the Israelite people, “I have given you the city of Jericho, its king, and all its mighty warriors.” Then God told Joshua what he had to do in order to win the battle. This is what God told Joshua to do:
  1. Your entire army is to march around the city once a day for six days.
  2. Seven priests will walk ahead of the ark of the covenant. Each priest will carry a ram's horn.
  3. On the seventh day you and your army are to march around the city seven times, with the priest blowing the horns. When you hear the priest give one long blast on the horns, have all the people give a mighty shout.
  4. Then the walls of the city will fall down, and you and your army can go straight into the city.
So Joshua called the priests together and said, “Pick-up the Ark of the Covenant and have seven priests to walk in front of the Ark, each one is to carry a ram's horn.” Then Joshua gave orders to the people, “March around the city, and the armed men will lead the way in front of the ark. Don't shout, don't even talk. Not a single word from any of you until I tell you to shout. Then shout!”
After Joshua finished speaking to the people, the seven priests who had the ram's horns started marching, blowing the horns as they marched. The priests who was carrying the ark, followed behind them carrying the ark. There were also armed guards that marched in front of the priests and behind the Ark. The seven priests who carried the horns, kept blowing them.
The Ark of the Covenant was carried around Jericho once that day, and then everyone returned to camp for the night. Joshua did this for six days.
On the seventh day the Israelites got up at dawn and they marched around the city as they had done before. But this time the Israelites marched around Jericho seven times. On the seventh time around the city the priests sounded a long blast on their horns. Joshua commanded the people, “Shout! For the Lord has given you the city!”
When the people heard the sound of the horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho fell down. The Israelites charged straight into the city from every side and they captured the city.
